Nikola Tesla - champion of alternating current
In P5 we learn about direct and alternating current. You've probably heard of Thomas Edison, famous for inventing the light bulb, amongst other things. However Edison borrowed the idea from some earlier inventors and simply improved it (he wasn't even the person who came up with the modern light bulb - William Coolidge designed the tungsten filament that most incandescent bulbs use). Edison received a lot of credit for work he didn't do, but another inventor, Nikola Tesla, received barely any credit despite the incredible work he did. To give you an insight into Tesla's brilliance, here's a cartoon that outlines some of his success: [Note, Westfield Academy does not condone all the language used in this link, but it probably makes for more interesting reading than some of the other websites] http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla
